Between December 31, 1983 and July 1986, approximately 5,000 V-shape/boomerang UFO sighting reports accumulated in the Hudson Valley region of New York State (north of NYC: Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess counties). The largest UFO wave in the Eastern U.S.

🔍 Incident Timeline

Peak 1 — 1984-03-24:

• ~50 witnesses near Yorktown, NY observed massive V-shaped craft
• Caused traffic jams from witness gatherings
• Description:
  • Massive V-shape or boomerang
  • Estimated 200-300m length (witness estimate)
  • Multiple corner lights
  • Slow movement (~30 mph)

1984-1986 mass reports:

• ~5,000 cumulative reports
• J. Allen Hynek + Philip J. Imbrogno investigated

• USAF + FAA joint conclusion: small aircraft formation flight (near Stormville Airport)
• 5-7 Cessna 152s flying V-formation at night

🤔 Analysis

Weakness of small-aircraft hypothesis:

• 5,000 reports cannot easily be explained by 5-7 small aircraft
• Witnesses describing "completely stationary hovering" — aircraft cannot do this
• Some witness distance + size descriptions don't match small aircraft
